                Our Unique Selection of Kittens

What makes PurrFurrably Unique kittens

so special?

Here is our unique selection:

Picture
Munchkin
Munchkin
Munchkin cats have a gene that makes them short legged.  Except for their short legs their overall features resemble a typical cat.  Pictured here is one of our Seal Lynx Point Munchkin kittens with classic tabby markings.

Minuet

Minuet
Minuets Cats are a cross between the Munchkin cat and Persian cat breeds.
A standard Minuet cat will have short legs and usually  have long hair.  Their faces tend to be flatter than a typical cat and their build is more cobby.  This photo is of a high white blue colored kitten we had.

Selkirk Rex

Selkirk Rex
Selkirk Rex cats have a gene for curly hair.  Not only is their coat curly, but their whiskers are too.  The kitten in the photo is our tortie Selkirk Rex , who has a tiny bit of white.

Lambkin
Lambkin
Lambkin cats are a cross between the curly haired Selkirk Rex breed
and one of the short legged breeds,
either a Munchkin or a Minuet.
A standard Lambkin will have short legs and curly hair.
This photo is of one of our brown tabby Lambkins.

 Scottish Kilt
Scottish Kilt Cats are a combination of the Munchkin and the Scottish Fold Breeds.
They are also known as Munchkin Folds or Scottish Fold Munchkins.  Scottish Kilts have folded ears and short legs.
This photo is of a Scottish Kilt kitten from our first Scottish Kilt litter.

Non Standard
Not every kitten in a litter will inherit a gene for a curly coat, folded ears, or short legs.
We refer to the kittens that do not inherit these traits from their parents as Non Standard.  Because Purrfurrably Unique Cats are crossed with the Persian Breed, our Non Standards kittens are very much the same as a Doll Face Persian cat.  Here is one of our Non Standards with a Chinchilla coat.

Although we have a variety of types of kittens we have limited numbers of each type from each litter.
This is because in each litter we are usually breeding for two different traits from the parents, curly and short legged or folded ear and short legged.  Each kitten in a given litter might inherit two, one, or neither of these traits.
These are dominant traits, which means on average 50% of the kittens will inherit one of these traits from a heterogeneous parent
(a parent with just one gene carrying the trait).  If you do the math, in a litter of four kittens that averages out to be one Lambkin,
one Minuet, one Selkirk Rex, and one Non Standard in a litter.  Or one Scottish Kilt, one Minuet, one Scottish Fold, and one Non Standard.  Of course hitting that exact average is rare, it's impossible to know how the "dice will roll",
so you can imagine the excitement with which we anticipate each birth.
Our breeding cats are a genetic treasure trove.  Besides the rare short legged, folded ear, and curly traits, we also have a variety of colors, patterns, long hair and short hair.  Each of our cats has has a unique genetic profile of rare and wonderful traits that could appear in their offspring.  So each litter is just like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you will get!  We love that we are crossing different breeds which helps guard against the dangers of inbreeding which is sometimes done when breeding purebred cats.
All of our cats originated from registered purebred cats.

Because we are a small, in-home cattery, we have a very limited number of litters each year.
